Subtitles uses the same user interface language as your operating system, as long as Subtitles includes it. Otherwise, its interface will appear in English.
Subtitles allows configuring your preferred languages used when searching for subtitles for your videos. When looking for subtitles, a search is performed using your first preferred language. If that fails, a new search is performed using your next preferred language. This process is repeated until either subtitles are found or there are no more languages.
This means that sorting the languages in the order you prefer is also important, in order to get the best possible results.
Note that there are no limits on how many preferred languages you can add, but the longer the list, the longer it will take to find subtitles.
The first time you start Subtitles it will automatically select your preferred languages for you. If your operating system language is supported by Subtitles, it will be set as your preferred language. Otherwise, your preferred language will be set to English.
In order to configure your preferred languages, open Subtitles' preferences, either by selecting the Preferences item in the File menu or by using the ⌘, keyboard shortcut.
In the Preferences window, select the Languages tab. Then, you can use the + button to add a new preferred language, or the - button to remove one. You can also reorder the languages by dragging them.
After clicking on the + button, you will be presented with the full list of supported languages, ordered alphabetically. Just select the one you want from the list and click on Add.
After adding a new preferred language, it will be put at the top of the list, as your primary language. You can later drag and drop the languages to reorder them and set your preferences.
In order to configure your preferred languages, open Subtitles' settings by clicking on the settings icon.
The settings will appear from the right, with several tabs available. To reveal the language settings, click on the languages tab.
From the languages settings, you can use the add button to add a new preferred language or the remove button to remove it.
